The aim of the Maths curriculum is to ensure that all students, regardless of prior learning, are able to access lessons that are both engaging and appropriately challenging. We aim to do this by removing the barriers that gaps in learning can cause. We do this by covering prior knowledge requirements before moving on to new teaching, this is effective for all learners as we are then also interleaving revision into our teaching.

The Sparx curriculum is designed such that we can tailor our teaching to exactly meet the needs of learners. Where a group is less advanced we can move into support topics in order to bring learners up to the appropriate level. When a group is doing particularly well, we can the move to topics that will stretch there knowledge developing their mathematical reasoning and problem solving skills.

Ultimately, our aim at St. Cuthbert’s is that no child leaves without an appropriate mathematics qualification be that GCSE or Entry Level Certificate.

Our Maths subject leader is Mr M Hammersley.
